Professor Hawking...
launching his new book, The Universe in a Nutshell says...
"But unless the human race spreads into space
I doubt it will survive the next 1000 years". Even for those who take his prognostications seriously
there is of course the realisation that with just perhaps the allotted 'three score years
and ten' to look forward to, this present generation has nothing to be too concerned about!
There is of course always the possibility that through the cracking of
the Human Genome code that mankind could increase in longevity to the point of having
to consider with more seriousness the concerns expressed by Professor Hawking.
The purpose of science is, of course, to establish knowledge through close
observation and experimentation in a particular field, followed by the establishment of data
and verifiable principles. Scientists are not prophets and their theories regarding the future of
mankind will always remain mere theories.
Thankfully we do have a reliable means of considering the future of the
human race in the Holy Bible, which contains a
more sure word of prophecy.(2 Peter 1:19). Verifying that the world will NOT end. For those who follow the Christian faith there is the five-fold
ministry of the Church which includes the office of prophet. So through the study of the Holy Scriptures
and by the leading of the Holy Spirit it is possible to know that the human race will survive.
This in spite of the fact that present day Signs of the Times demonstrate that a period of
Great Tribulation is to come upon the world. However we do have a sure and certain hope
known as the Blessed Hope, i.e. the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, heralding the establishment
of the Kingdom of God also referred to as the Millennium Kingdom. Following this there is the regeneration
the New Heavens and the New Earth leading into the Eternal Kingdom.
